WhatsApp Marketing in 2026: A Playbook for B2C Brands

Your customers already have it open. Most brands still aren't using it well.

WhatsApp open rates make email look neglected — but that same intimacy is exactly why sloppy, over-eager brands get muted or blocked fast. The brands winning on the channel treat every message as something the customer opted into, not a free broadcast list.

The API side has matured enough that this is no longer just broadcast blasts. Order confirmations, appointment reminders, cart recovery, and support handoffs can all run through the same thread the customer already trusts.

What a disciplined WhatsApp program looks like

  • Earn opt-in with a clear value exchange, not a pre-checked box at checkout.
  • Keep transactional messages (orders, reminders) separate from promotional ones.
  • Let a bot handle the first reply, but route to a human the moment it's needed.
  • Cap promotional frequency — the channel's power is intimacy, and intimacy has a limit.

Email gets ignored. SMS gets tolerated. WhatsApp gets read — which means it also gets you muted the fastest if you abuse it.

Done well, WhatsApp becomes the highest-trust channel a B2C brand has. Done carelessly, it becomes the fastest way to get opted out of entirely.
